EDMM Letter 2020

Dear EDMM Creator,

Thank you so much for writing/drawing one of these fandoms, and sorry for the delay in posting this letter! I love all the ships requested here, so if you already have something in mind and want to go ahead and write or draw that, I’m really open for anywhere you’d like to go with them. But as always, I love getting a chance to flail about the things I’ve requested, so if you’d like a non-exhaustive guide to what I love about these characters and some of the things I’d like to see in fic or art, here is my letter. I really hope there’s something here that inspires you, and that you have an amazing exchange!

General

General Likes: fic and art of all ratings, all POVs/tenses, characters from everywhere on the moral spectrum, fairytale vibes, supernatural elements, introspection and character studies, distinctive settings and worldbuilding, mythology, literary references and allusions, symbolism, complicated or ambiguous relationships, characters going to hell and back for each other (literally or figuratively), emotional hurt/comfort, hidden depths and dimensions (as both a character thing and a worldbuilding thing), love stories of all kinds, slow burns and slow builds, little details, hopeful endings (even for unconventional values of hopeful).

Smut Likes: first times, oral sex (especially cunnilingus and face-sitting), dirty talk and dialogue, bondage, non-lifestyle D/s, blindfolds, sensation play, hair-touching, holding hands during sex, wrists pinned to things, ordinarily restrained or composed characters letting go, intimacy, vulnerability, emotional intensity of all kinds, touch starvation, edging, body worship, kissing, lingerie and other beautiful clothes, slow undressing scenes.

DNWs: permanent non-canon character death (unless otherwise requested), rape/noncon as the main focus (although references to canon events are fine), pregnancy/non-canon kids, explicit content for characters under 16 (or under 18 for art), omegaverse, stuffing, humiliation kink.

Crimson Peak (2015)
Sweet, Sour, Spicy / Fic, Art

Edith Cushing/Lucille Sharpe/Thomas Sharpe
I adore all the gothic horror and gothic romance that builds up between Edith and the Sharpes, and I love how Lucille and Thomas’ complicated feelings for Edith are often mediated through the poisoned tea within the movie itself. I would really love to see any takes on food and drink as part of the gothic manor experience or how it would fit into their strange romance as an OT3. Poison, seduction, caretaking, saving each other - anything where they get to do any of this through food and drink would be incredible.

Prompts:
- Anything where Edith, Lucille and/or Thomas make food and drink out of the fruits that grow around Allerdale Hall. Picking firethorn berries and drying them out for the tea, making preserves out of other kinds of dark, sour fruits, stained hands and lips—any kind of slightly gothic homesteading activities would be delicious.

- Dinner at Allerdale Hall. What’s the dining room like? Do the Sharpes usually dress for dinner? I would love any kind of fic or art that focuses on food or dining in relation to the lush-yet-decaying atmosphere of Allerdale Hall and the Sharpes’ lifestyle.

- Edith becomes fascinated with how much Thomas and Lucille cook and bake for themselves while they’re living in isolation at Allerdale Hall. Is it very ritualized when Thomas and Lucille are in the kitchen together? Has Edith ever spent much time cooking or baking before?

- Picnics in Buffalo, or on the moors at Allerdale Hall.

- Any kind of “bringing food to a sick person” situation. More scenes of Lucille or Thomas bringing food to Edith while they’re poisoning her, or trying to strengthen her if they decide they want her to live? Lucille falls ill, and Thomas and Edith have to take food to her in the attic?

- Thomas starts drinking the firethorn berry tea along with Edith. Does he start drinking it early in their marriage to make Edith think it’s safe to drink? Or does he start drinking it later, because he decides he wants to die with Edith? If Lucille notices, does it change how she feels about the poisoning plot?

- Decadent hotel meals all over the continent, in a canon divergence where Edith, Lucille and Thomas left Allerdale Hall as a murder family.

The Lighthouse (2019)
Sweet, Sour, Spicy / Fic, Art

Thomas Wake/Ephraim Winslow, Thomas Wake/Ephraim Winslow/Mermaid
I love how Wake and Winslow are caught between petty cruelty and desperate tenderness and wishing eldritch horrors on each other while they’re tending the lighthouse together, and I love how the mermaid there with them on the periphery of the island too. I would adore any food-themed take on Wake and Winslow’s intense wickie domesticity, or more of their weird, drunken moments of intimacy. I’m also really fascinated by Winslow’s obsession with the mermaid, and Wake’s sad, longing, sailor’s love for the sea, and I would be totally down for anything where Wake gets some mermaid tail along with Winslow (…so to speak).

Prompts:
- Aphrodisiac sea food! I would love any kind of take on the idea of lobsters or oysters as an aphrodisiac to go with the rest of the horny sea mythology in the movie, or anything where Wake and Winslow eat food associated with some kind of eldritch version of Aphrodite. Do the aphrodisiacs work like a sex pollen, or is it a slow burn?

- Wake makes Winslow cook for him. Is it punishment after an argument about the food, or does Wake decide he wants to kink on some housewifely attentions from Winslow?

- Wake and Winslow scavenging for food or drink together - fishing, or emptying the lobster cage, or even trying to harvest anything that grows on the island. I really love the scenes with the honeyed kerosene, and would love to see any more of their weird, unconventional attempts to keep getting drunk together.

- Wake cooks his idea of a wedding feast after he and Winslow become lovers.

- Gifts of food to or from the mermaid. I would love anything where Wake and Winslow have to make offerings to the mermaid in order to court her or pay tribute to her, or anything where the mermaid sometimes gives sustenance to lighthouse keepers who catch her eye.

- Anything where the mermaid binds Wake and Winslow to her by making them eat some kind of fantastical seafood - kraken tentacles, mermaid roe, drinking out of Triton’s horn, any kind of weird and mythic food or drink would be incredible.

Midsommar (2019)
Sweet, Sour, Spicy / Fic, Art

Dani Ardor/Maja
I really love how much of the summertime headiness of the movie comes from scenes with food and drink, like the ritual tea before the maypole dance, and I also love the way that Dani and Maja are both transformed by what they eat, drink, and bake. I’m really interested in how Maja seems more emotionally intense and introverted than the rest of the cult, more like Dani, and I would love to see any fic or art for them that explores how they might come to feel about each other and how they relate to each other after their rites of passage at the festival, feasting and harvesting in the cult together.

(ETA: this canon is a blanket exception to my pregnancy/kidfic DNW, and I’m totally on board for fic or art which deals with Maja’s possible pregnancy after the movie.)

Prompts:
- More feasts and festivities! If there’s a celebration for Maja’s baby, does Dani have to perform any ceremonial duties for new mothers in her capacity as the May Queen? What are the midwinter festivals like for the Harga, and what kind of roles do Maja and Dani have in them? Does Maja have to preside over any ritual feasts with berries and apples or spiced wine, as a wintry counterpart to Dani?

- Harvesttime moments, reaping the fields or picking berries together in the forest, or making preserves in the kitchen hut.

- Dani ends up with the pube pie instead of Christian, and Maja decides to go with it (against the wishes of the elders?).

- Dani and Maja are brought together by a ritual where the flowers from Dani’s crown are baked into some kind of cake or pie, or crushed into a beverage - maybe the cake is a way of finding a consort or handmaiden, or a drink made from her crown is meant to have fertility powers?

- Dani and Maja are out of the commune together (maybe while Maja has to leave the cult for a year after her baby is born?), and Dani is there while Maja tries non-Harga food for the first time.

- Strange, fucked-up but still emotionally powerful hurt/comfort. After the fallout from the midsummer festival, Maja tries to win over or make amends to a still-traumatized Dani through food and drink. (Do they eat some bear meat together to symbolically deal with the Christian situation?) Or, after the midsummer festival, Maja is uncertain about her pregnancy, doesn't get pregnant at all, or suffers a miscarriage, and Dani looks after her through food and drink.

Twin Peaks
Sweet, Sour, Spicy / Fic, Art

Dale Cooper/Audrey Horne, Dale Cooper/Laura Palmer, Diane Evans/Tamara “Tammy” Preston, Audrey Horne/Laura Palmer, Chantal Hutchens/Gary “Hutch” Hutchens
I love everything about how cherries and coffee and diners fit into the dreamy world of the show, and how often food and drink becomes a part of its love stories - how effortlessly old Hollywood romance melts into the romance of the everyday when Audrey and Cooper are at breakfast, and the mythicness of Cooper trying to drink coffee with Laura in the weird otherworldly speakeasy of the Black Lodge, and Diane’s speculative looks when Tammy brings her coffee, and all the ski holiday hot drinks that Audrey and Laura might have had together, and Chantal and Hutch at Wendy’s between hits. I would absolutely adore any fic or art that gives more of that to any of these ships - desserts, late night drinks, roadside meals, strange fruits in the wood.

Prompts:
- Audrey and Cooper under a cherry tree. Or, Audrey wears cherries as lingerie.

- A meal in the forest or the mountains for Audrey/Cooper, Audrey/Laura or Cooper/Laura. Is it strange, wild food and stream water or flasks of coffee and picnic spreads? Do they eat around a campfire or bonfire if they’re out there at night?

- Laura is there the first time that Audrey tries alcohol. Does she sneak it out from a Palmer-Horne dinner party? Is she at the Roadhouse or a party, and does Laura step in to look after her?

- What did Chantal and Hutch eat at their wedding? Was it a Vegas wedding with fast food afterwards? Was there a reception anywhere, or did they hit the road right after and just celebrate with alcohol straight from the bottle in the middle of nowhere later that night?

- Tammy notices that Diane is almost exclusively fuelled by vodka and cigarettes, and decides to find out what kind of food she would like. Does she research it extensively from room service waiters and bar receipts? Does she surprise Diane with some kind of lunch offering one day, or does she use her research to swing herself a more formal kind of date?

- Hot drinks for Audrey and Laura on their winter holiday together. Do they love or hate drinking cocoa and pretending that everything is normal for a moment? Does one of them get reckless out in the cold and need the other one to help warm them up with some mulled wine or fresh coffee?

- Food and drink in the Black Lodge. Can Cooper only eat food in the Black Lodge if Laura hand-feeds it to him? Does Laura ever eat or drink anything there, either regular food or Lodge goddess food? Does it work kind of like the Greek underworld, and if Cooper or Audrey ate or drank anything in a Lodge dream, would they be trapped there?

- Hutch tries to woo Chantal with food early in their relationship. Does he ever cook for her? Does food help him earn her trust?

- Tammy and Diane drinking together. Is Tammy naturally the kind of drinker who can keep up with Diane, or does she just kind of fall into a routine with her while they’re working late at some hotel in Buckhorn? What if she went to visit Diane at the bar instead of Albert, or what if she met “Linda” at a bar in Texas?

- Strange, intimate, meals between Cooper and Laura after the Return finale. Visiting the Double R and trying to reconnect with the world, or eating together in motels or automats or other roadside places.

- Any kind of post-Return Audrey/Cooper that explores how their experiences with food and drink have changed since they last saw each other, especially with elements of hurt/comfort. Is Cooper there for Audrey’s first breakfast after her recovery from wherever she was before? Does he invite her to dinner to try out some kind of food or drink he never had chance to taste before he got stuck in the Lodge? Do they go drinking and dancing at a jazz club? How does he feel about the Final Dossier hint that Audrey has been a heavy drinker for a while?

- Audrey finds Laura while she’s weak or dehydrated from taking drugs and tries to look after her as best as she can.

- Any of the ships drinking at the Roadhouse. What would Tammy and Diane or Chantal and Hutch make of it if they went there for the first time, and would it seem otherworldly or just like the kind of dive bar they know from other places? Does Audrey ever follow Laura there, or do Laura and Cooper or Audrey and Cooper end up there at any point between two worlds?

- Ordering room service late at night. Do the fries and malts become a regular thing for Audrey and Cooper until something more finally happens? Do Chantal and Hutch ever get put up in hotel somewhere and go wild with the menu? After the Return, does Cooper order food for Laura to help her feel alive again?
